WHAT YOU CANNOT SEE IN A RELIC
(and why it is the most important part)

What you cannot see in a Relic
What you cannot see in a relic.
When we look at an object, we tend to judge it by what it reveals.
Form, proportions, visible details. It is the most immediate way to understand what stands before us.
But not everything that matters is visible.
Not everything is made to be shown
Many objects are designed to be understood at a glance. Everything is exposed, everything can be read at once.
A Relic follows a different logic.
Not everything is brought to the surface. Some parts are deliberately less apparent; others remain entirely hidden. Not through omission, but by choice.
Value is not always visible
What we see is only the first layer.
The rest takes shape over time, through details that do not seek immediate attention. It is a slower structure, intended not to impress at once, but to endure.
This completely changes the way an object is perceived.
The interior as a second layer
Many Relics have a sculpted interior.
It is not a functional element. It is not needed for use. And often it is not even visible when the piece is worn.
Yet it is there.
It is a second layer of construction, conceived not to be shown, but to exist. A part that accompanies the object without imposing itself.
The Dark Side Method
Within DECEM's work, this approach takes shape in what is known as the Metodo Dark Side.
It is not an isolated technique, but a way of designing.
The idea that an object can have an inner structure as meaningful as its outer one. That there can be a part that does not reveal itself at once, less apparent, yet no less important.
It is a layer that asks for no attention. But once discovered, it changes the perception of everything else.
What remains hidden
Over time, what was not designed to be shown often becomes what truly defines the object.
Not because it is secret, but because it was made without the need to be seen.
It is a quieter presence, yet a more enduring one.
Forged in Venice
Every Relic is born in Venice, within the Tempio DECEM.
Not everything is revealed at once. Nor is everything meant to be.
