WHY DANTE STILL SPEAKS TO THE PRESENT AFTER 700 YEARS

Dante still speaks to the present. More than seven centuries have passed since Dante Alighieri's death. Yet the Divina Commedia continues to be read, illustrated, studied and reinterpreted throughout the world.

This is not a common phenomenon.

Many writers become important for historical reasons. Dante remains important for a different reason: he still speaks of something we recognise.

Forms change. Cities change, as do technology and the way we live. Yet certain questions remain the same.

Who we are.

Where we are going.

This is why Dante remains contemporary.

THE DIVINA COMMEDIA IS NOT ABOUT THE MIDDLE AGES

The Divina Commedia is often associated with school, literature or history.

In truth, the reason it continues to be read lies elsewhere.

Dante's journey passes through Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso, but it is not merely a religious journey. It is a path of transformation.

Every encounter, every figure and every place represents a human condition.

This is why the meaning of the Divina Commedia does not depend on the age in which it was written.

It depends on its ability to tell of experiences that continue to exist.

WHY INFERNO STILL FASCINATES

Of the three cantiche, Inferno is probably the best known.

Not only for the power of its imagery, but because it brings to life conflicts we still recognise today.

Ambition.

Betrayal.

Fear.

Desire.

Power.

Dante's Inferno is compelling not because it describes punishments, but because it describes consequences.

And it is precisely this idea that keeps it relevant.

DANTE TODAY

When we speak of Dante today, we often think of a distant figure.

Yet much of his fascination comes from the opposite.

Dante observes his own time and seeks to understand it through symbols, images and narratives.

Every generation does the same.

The tools change, but the need to give meaning to human experience does not.

This is why his work continues to be read anew.

Not as a relic of the past, but as a structure that continues to generate new interpretations.

A WORK THAT CONTINUES TO GENERATE IMAGES

Few books have shaped the collective imagination as profoundly as the Divina Commedia.

Artists, illustrators, writers and filmmakers continue to return to its imagery.

Some images have become universal.

The gate of Inferno.

The dark wood.

The journey.

The light.

Not because they belong to a particular age, but because they represent experiences that pass through time.

WHY I ALWAYS RETURN TO DANTE

There are works we admire.

Others we revisit throughout our lives.

For me, Dante belongs to the second category.

Each reading reveals something I had not seen before.

A symbol.

A passage.

A connection.

Perhaps this is precisely why he still speaks to the present after seven hundred years.

He offers no definitive answers.

He continues to ask questions.

FORGED IN VENICE

Within the Tempio DECEM, Dante is a constant presence.

Not as an author to be celebrated, but as an inexhaustible source of images, symbols and reflections on change.

Some works continue to generate meaning long after they have been created.

The Divina Commedia is one of them.
